There certainly used to be a prominent memorial, probably still there. Found the details here..........

If you come across any memorials to Scots Regiments or soldiers, I would be very grateful to have copies of photos (with readable inscriptions if possible) to post on the Scots War Memorials Forum.

There are two WW1 CWGC locations in Mumbai (Bombay).

BOMBAY (ST. THOMAS) CATHEDRAL MEMORIAL with five names

BOMBAY 1914-1918 MEMORIAL with 2210 names

From WW2 there is also

BOMBAY (SEWRI) CEMETERY with one Commonwealth War Grave

BOMBAY 1939-1945 WAR MEMORIAL with 6470 names

I`ve only been through Mumbai (Bombay) and strolled round the airport while on my way east. Not the most picturesque airport! I always imagined, though, that the local junk shops would have oodles of WW1 medals going cheap. Kindly report back and tell us if it`s true?

When I worked in Sudan I was introduced to the Indian diplomatic representative. Small talk ensued in which I enquired from whence he hailed. "Mumbai" he declared to which I replied "Oh! you mean Bombay" he scowled somewhat and replied "No I mean Mumbai" I got me coat and left shortly afterwards.

90,000 seems a little high and well above the CWGC figures (if you mean the Bombay 1914-1918 Memorial) or is there a non-CWGC memorial there?

Birdy,

On the off chance if you're that way, can you take some pictures of the Sewri Cemetery, Bombay please. One of our men is burried there somewhere.

The Delhi Memorial (India Gate) only bears 13313 names.

However, it also functions as a general memorial to all Indians who died in WW1. The other names are inscribed on headstones and other memorials around the world.
