stevem49 Posted 14 February , 2008 Posted 14 February , 2008 My friend is trying to work out which John Whitehouse is his Grandfather. Down to two possibles - 10762 - 1st Bn 21335 - 10th Bn If i can get a possible enlistment date, that may help. I think he was from Heanor area. Any ideas chaps! Stevem
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 14 February , 2008 Posted 14 February , 2008 10762 would suggest a 1914 "Kitchener's Men" enlistment into a Service Bn & being posted to re~inforce the 1st Bn;
mikebriggs Posted 15 February , 2008 Posted 15 February , 2008 Can only find the one MIC Arrived in France on 4.11.14 and discharged 24.10.17 Can't find 21335 Whitehouse?? Mike
stevem49 Posted 15 February , 2008 Author Posted 15 February , 2008 Thanks both. I had better recheck the info. He got it from Mr Housley. Just checked Andy's list and I cannot find a 21335 either! There are also 2 others - 2653 and 4236. Plus a John H - 108469 and John Henry 103636. Looks like I will have to go back to him and find out what Mr H used to come up with 21335 J Whitehouse! I cannot see how he can say that it can be one of two Thanks again Steve
jmoha Posted 15 February , 2008 Posted 15 February , 2008 10762 Whitehouse was awarded SWB 256431 when discharged due to Sickness aged 28 years and 5 months. The other chap doesn't appear on my list but if the number was issued it would have been for an enlistment on the 30/12/1914. 21325 - enl. 30/12/1914 21343 - enl. 30/12/1914 Could he have been one the 10th battalion lot that got transfered to the 12th battalion (Private Stockdales thread) and then never went overseas?
stevem49 Posted 15 February , 2008 Author Posted 15 February , 2008 Thanks I think that either the number is wrong Mr Housley has got a number and mans name mixed up! The chap was told that only two John Whitehouse's served with the Regiment and I have found 2 others plus 2 J.H. Back to the drawing board me thinks. Thanks all steve
stevem49 Posted 15 February , 2008 Author Posted 15 February , 2008 My friend seems to think that his man was wounded but not the one in 1st Bn! Shrapnel removed in the 30s. I have asked him to check his info and get back to me.
mikebriggs Posted 15 February , 2008 Posted 15 February , 2008 Hi Steve Problem is that the N & D Archives are very incomplete. For eg they have not used the Medal Rolls to compile their lists (as far as I am aware). I will get the MICs for all varients of J Whitehouse and either e-mail or post here. cheers Mike
mikebriggs Posted 15 February , 2008 Posted 15 February , 2008 2653 John Whitehouse of the 7th Battn d/w 1.7.16
mikebriggs Posted 15 February , 2008 Posted 15 February , 2008 4263 John Whitehouse. Looks like a 5th Battn man to me (would tie in with Heanor) and he has a SWB the other two John H(enrys) are probably conscripted men and have no info on MICs cheers Mike
stevem49 Posted 16 February , 2008 Author Posted 16 February , 2008 Once again, Thanks Mike. They do have the Medal Rolls for 9th Bn . Although as with all things WW1, that is not complete. The 5th Bn man does look like a good candidate. regards Steve
