Name: Reginald Ellison Service Branch: Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Unit: Howe Bn. Rank: Able Seaman Death Date: 26 May 1915 Cause of Death: Died of wounds in 17th General Hospital Alexandria (GSW right side & spine, paraplegia 1/5/15, septicaemia) Burial: Chatby War Memorial Cemetery (Egypt 6) Service History: Enlisted 7/9/14 ; Howe Bn. 'D' Company 1/3/15-26/5/15 DD. Notes: Born February 27th 1897 (declared 1896 on enlistment), in St. Ann’s, St. Helens, Lancashire, the second son of James Ormrod Ellison and Annie Elizabeth (née Robinson) Ellison, of Laurel Bank, Tarbock Road, Huyton, Lancs. Resided with parents on enlistment. He was educated at Ashton-in-Makerfield Grammar School, and was unmarried. On the outbreak of war he was articled as an apprentice electrical engineer. Buried Chatby War Memorial Cemetery, Alexandria, by Rev. S.H. Doorbar. Photo in de Ruvigny’s Roll of Honour, Volume I, page 125. Not sure if these two men would be in there? Private John McNally PLY/486(S), Royal Marine Light Infantry, Plymouth Bn. R.N. Div died 03/05/1915, aged 21.( the Royal Navy Casualties of the great war gives John`s death as 26th April 1915 ) Son of Sarah McNally, of 86b, Limekiln Lane, Liverpool. Remembered at Helles Memorial, Turkey. Cause of death, Missing, assumed dead ('Y' Beach 25-26/4/15) Service history, Plymouth Bn. MEF 6/2/15-26/4/15 DD. Private Joseph Herbert Smith PLY/15843, Royal Marine Light Infantry, 2nd R.N. Bn. R.N. Div. died 03/01/1918. Sister, Catherine McManus, 22 Horatio St., Liverpool. Remembered at Fifteen Ravine British Cemetery, Villers-Plouich, France. Cause of death, Killed in action Service history, ex-PLY/12118 (7 years 24 days) & ex-CH/16514 re-enlisted 16/9/1910, transferred to Plymouth Division 8/10/1912 ; HMS "Inflexible" 10/1/14-7/5/17 (Present at Battle of Falkland Islands 1914) ; Embarked RM Brigade 23/8/17 .
