I'm heading to Boston for a week in April. :)

Part of my time will be spent at a conference but I was wondering whether anyone knew of any WW1 sites of interest in the area?

There will be a memorial to 26th Yankee Division somewhere, maybe Boston Common. It was New Enfgland National Guard commanded by much loved Clarence Edwards who Pershing canned. Early in its tour Germans raided it at Seicheperey and inflicted big losses byt firing was not til near the end.

There's The Memorial Church at Harvard:

“In grateful memory of the Harvard men who died in the World War we have built this Church.” —inscription over the South entrance to the Memorial Room

The Memorial Church is the church for Harvard University, dedicated on Armistice Day 1932 in memory of those who died in World War I, a gift of the alumni to the University. Memorials have been added to remember those who have died in the wars since.

**Among those remembered are 4 Harvard men who died in service to the Central Powers:

List of the Harvard men who died in the service of Germany and her allies, with the Latin inscription:

ACADEMIA HARVARDIANA

NON OBLITA EST FILIORUM SUORUM

QUI DIVERSIS SUB SIGNIS

PRO PATRIA SPIRITUM REDDIDERUNT

MDCCCCXIV - MDCCCCXVIII

Translation:

HARVARD HAS NOT

FORGOTTEN HER SONS

WHO UNDER OPPOSITE

STANDARDS GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY

1914 - 1918

Fritz Daur

Konrad Delbruck

Kurt Peters

Also memorialized in the church are 3 Radcliffe College women who died as nurses:

Thanks Paul and Bottsgreys - I particularly like the sound of that Harvard memorial. We were hoping to see Harvard while we're there so I will definitely find out more about that!
