I am requesting help on behalf of our local history society , we are researching the people on our local War memorial and are having some difficuly with some of the names.

Arthur Hallam 37088 2nd Batt Lanc. fusilleers formerly 44881 North Staffs. died 12/10/1916

We have the info from the cwgc site but that is all, if anyone can offer any other help we would be very grateful.

If you are interested in where he was around the time of his death his Bn was part of 12 Brigade 4 Division in the Battle of Le Transloy,one of the later phases of the Somme offensive. For specific info the War Diary of the 2LF is under WO95/1507 at Kew,and covers the time from Aug 1914 to Feb 1919.

Maureen, According to the History of The Lancashire Fusiliers the 2nd L/Fs were (between the 9th October and the 13th October 1916) at TRONES WOOD; trenches LESBOEUFS ; attack. then in reserve at Bernafay Wood from the 14th. Ralph.
