On a local roll of honour I have a Rifleman Samuel McGaughin of Royal Irish Rifles. Home address given as Ballynafie, Ballymena. I do not have service no. and CWGC site keeps coming back with zero records. The name may be McCaughin or McGaughan - can anyone help.

I don't know Andy .... he may be one of several Scots who were living over here and joined Irish Regts. But Co. Down is a bit far awat in enlistment terms. I may have to go to the Church records/old newspapers on this one. Thanks anyway.

BTW did you see the post on the two officers died same day (cambrai)? If you had info on these two it would be helpful. I posted under 'soldiers.'

Good point on minor spelling variations. I wonder how many ways there are to spell SAYER? I've just tried: SAYAR, SAIER, SAYRE, SAYRA - no luck! So I am still looking for Charles William SAYER.
