Leatham Posted 11 February , 2008 Posted 11 February , 2008 Albert Hart was my Great Uncle and won the Military Medal at Le Vert Bois Farm, near La Bassee, on 8 August 1918. I have the official version of what happened from the regimental history which simple records the award of the MM to Cpl Hart and two other soldiers, Pvt J.S. Logan and Pvt W.Whitwam. Capt A.D.Macdonald was awarded a bar to his Military Cross and 2nd Lt C.C.Bracewell was awarded the Military Cross in the same action. I am trying to find out what Albert actually did in this engagement and would welcome any information. The information held by the Lancashire Fusiliers museum only records that his MM was awarded for "gallantry in the field."
sotonmate Posted 11 February , 2008 Posted 11 February , 2008 Leathers There is a good possibility that the citation/incident is recorded in the 2 LFs War Diary, which I have just quoted for another post a few minutes back ! It is WO95/1507 and runs from Aug 1914 to Feb 1919. In the past I have seen both ways of it being recorded in the Diary, one on the day,or a day shortly after the event,or in an Appendix at the end of the month concerned. I say this because you might need to be careful if you are planning to buy a download of the Diary and then find you didn't get the relevant Appendix(es) concerned ! Best wishes Sotonmate
Leatham Posted 13 February , 2008 Author Posted 13 February , 2008 Sotonmate Thanks for this info. I wasn't aware that you could buy the war diaries online. Can you tell me how you go about it please? It's a long way from my home to Kew! Best Leathers
