Patrick ODwyer Posted 10 February , 2008 Posted 10 February , 2008 I am signed up to Ancestry (soon to expire!) and want to view the Australian Electoral Rolls but I keep getting error messages. Tried to find the problem and solution without success and NO REPLY from Ancestry Help (are they all the same these 'support' offers!). Can anyone advise why I may have this 'operation aborted' issue? Thanks
Procat Posted 11 February , 2008 Posted 11 February , 2008 Hi Patrick, I assume you are going in through Ancestry UK? I just accessed them successfully. No joy for you I know but at least you know they are working for others. Doug
ypres1418 Posted 11 February , 2008 Posted 11 February , 2008 I am on ancestry UK and have just gone in no problem, try again now and see if it is working for you. Good Luck Mandy if you cant tell me what you want and i'll try for you. M
Patrick ODwyer Posted 11 February , 2008 Author Posted 11 February , 2008 Thanks I am still getting a box that says :'internet explorer cannot open the site, security deny - lots of gobbledegook - and operation aborted' I am trying to download the electoral roll of Ross Anson (RR Anson). If you can help that would be great. Thanks
Procat Posted 11 February , 2008 Posted 11 February , 2008 Hi Patrick, If you haven't already try reducing the security settings in Internet Explorer. Tools/Options/Security/Internet I am set at Medium-high and got on. Doug
Patrick ODwyer Posted 11 February , 2008 Author Posted 11 February , 2008 Mine are just set at medium but the same happened when I lowered them I can't understand it and no reply from Ancestry to help (yet)
Procat Posted 11 February , 2008 Posted 11 February , 2008 You could try the free browser Firefox: http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/firefox/ I use it myself and it supposedly has less security breaches. If you can't get on using Firefox at least you will know it is not your browser but some other setting. You do not need to remove IE to run it. Doug

Doug Thanks Doug Can I still have IE as my default? and just use this on occassion or does it become the default if I download? I am not very technically minded though I get by.
Patrick ODwyer Posted 11 February , 2008 Author Posted 11 February , 2008 Sorted out the firefox, thanks. I did get one stage further (great!) but it turns out I have to pay more. I didn't think I did as it is a page on the UK membership site (confused) and also the other Australian records I have used have no additional charge.

Procat Posted 12 February , 2008 Posted 12 February , 2008 Patrick, Has Ypres 1418 got the information for you? I have access to the Aus electoral rolls if not. Doug
Patrick ODwyer Posted 12 February , 2008 Author Posted 12 February , 2008 Thanks Doug No not yet. If I had manage to get to this page myself I would have known I had to fork out for it but I couldn't get there until you suggested firefox. I was going to see if I could find other OZ links to make a voucher worthwhile (doubtful). If you could look for Ross Anson that would be much appreciated. Patrick
Procat Posted 12 February , 2008 Posted 12 February , 2008 As far as I can see he was only on the one roll, as was his wife: Electoral Year: 1925 State: Queensland District: Moreton Subdistrict: Ipswich Anson, Ethel Jane, Allenby, Roderick st., Ipswich, home duties, Female Anson, Ross Rosebery, Allenby, Roderick st., Ipswich, instr. cttn. cltr., Male I don't know what the abbreviation for his occupation is for. Not all electoral rolls have been loaded so there may be more later on. It appears QLD rolls are loaded for 1905, 1913, 1925 and 1936 Unfortunately QLD BMD indexes stop in 1914. Doug
Procat Posted 12 February , 2008 Posted 12 February , 2008 Patrick, have you seen what appear to be his records at the Australian National Archives: http://www.naa.gov.au/ Doug

Patrick ODwyer Posted 12 February , 2008 Author Posted 12 February , 2008 Doug Thank you so much for this. Yes, I got his papers from Australia before they went on line. Occupation is something to think about. No worries Mandy and thank you - I know what it is like! A grateful Patrick
