Guest Fraser Posted 22 January , 2003 Share Posted 22 January , 2003 I heard a runour that when the filming of "The Trench" was over the local people took over maintenance and are planning to open them to the public. I think they were near Cambrai and as I am planning a battlefield walk there I thought I might have a look. Does any one know if this is true and who to talk to ? Chris_Baker Posted 22 January , 2003 Share Posted 22 January , 2003 The trench is near Havrincourt. Contact Phillippe Gorczinski at Hotel Beatus, Cambrai. He owns the site, is very enthusiastic and might even show you around.

AOK4 Posted 23 January , 2003 Share Posted 23 January , 2003 Hello, I've seen "the Trench" (both on TV and the location) and I must say I wasn't too impressed (by both)... Jan
Graham-McAdam Posted 23 January , 2003 Share Posted 23 January , 2003 Philippe will not show you The Trench. Although he now owns the site and has plans for its future, he continues to put his efforts into the Deborah Museum, and the new Memorial at Flesquieres Chateau. He regards the Trench as rather a trivial distraction from real history!
Chris_Baker Posted 23 January , 2003 Share Posted 23 January , 2003 He's probably fed up with showing people around!
Graham-McAdam Posted 23 January , 2003 Share Posted 23 January , 2003 He should be, shouldn't he - the amount of time he spends feryying people gratis out to Flesquieres!
