Eddieg Posted 1 February , 2004 Posted 1 February , 2004 How can I find out what battallion of the D.L.I my grand father was in.He was Bugler E Gregg no.1435.I thought it was the 8th but now have my doubts.
Chris_Baker Posted 1 February , 2004 Posted 1 February , 2004 The medal rolls will tell you the battalion(s), Eddie. They are at the National Archives in Kew.
Jock Bruce Posted 1 February , 2004 Posted 1 February , 2004 The easiest way - if you can get there or get somebody to do it for you - is to consult the medal rolls at the PRO. The rolls should list all units an infantryman served with after going overseas. See http://www.documentsonline.pro.gov.uk/medals.asp for more detail. Jock
Eddieg Posted 1 February , 2004 Author Posted 1 February , 2004 Thanks for the info, will try and visit Kew one day .But it's a long march from tyneside.
