HI Annie.

Sorry I havnt got back to you sooner to answere you question regarding the 24th Bn Royal Fusiliers

(2nd Sportsmen).Your fellow was in the area of Trones Wood on the 28th July 1916, the entry in the war diary says, 28th July, Trones Wood:Relieved the 17th Bn Royal Fusiliers.B companyin the wood, the remainder of the battalion in LONGUEVAL ALLEY.Very hot day, several casualties.Looking at some of the entries for the day previous, and the day afterit looks like the casualties were caused by shell fire. The area they were in was close to Delville Wood.

Hope this is of some use to you.

Andy

I am researching a relative who died on 30/31 July I presume when his company was apparently involved in the action around Waterlot farm/Guillemot.I would be grateful to know what is recorded in the 24th Battalion war diary regarding this disastrous episode.

Many thanks

Hi Andy

I'm new to this forum. Looking for any war information on my grandfather Col Sydney joseph Lowe reg no 7335. Served among others with the 4th batt Northumberland. Any mentions of movements would be wonderful. I think he would have been a Major before the end of the war.

Thanks in anticipation
