Adam Llewellyn Posted 7 February , 2008 Posted 7 February , 2008 Good Day To You All, Langham Bishop MM is one of the Gentlemen from Anstey and I would appreciate some help if possible. Could anyone tell me where I may be able to get more information on Langhams Military Medal, I was thinking about trying the local press? On CWGC Langham is down as being with the 221st Siege Battery 5th Brigade, but on the Long, Long Trail website I'm unable to find a 221st the numbers seem to go from 197 and then to 222. Could anyone tell me if this is correct and if so any idea on which Battery Langham would have been with. Regards. Llew.
SteveE Posted 7 February , 2008 Posted 7 February , 2008 Llew His MM was listed in the London Gazette #29731, dated 1st September 1916. 60578 Gunner L. Bishop, R.G.A. Link to the Gazette is Here Steve
the gunners dream Posted 7 February , 2008 Posted 7 February , 2008 Liew, This is his medal index card which will provide you with some details of his MM award. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=1 This is his gazette listing: http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/ViewPDF.a...t=&similar= MMs were not generally cited and I would suggest you look at the war diary for his unit which is available to be viewed at Kew. However the date it was cited may not tally with 221 RGA as the war diary only seems to run fro 1917 to 1918. WO 95/305 221 Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery 1917 Feb. - 1918 Jan. Steve
Adam Llewellyn Posted 7 February , 2008 Author Posted 7 February , 2008 Thanks to you both. Steve (gunners), Do you think it would be 3.50 well spent for the MIC? Llew.
the gunners dream Posted 7 February , 2008 Posted 7 February , 2008 Llew, It depends if you want a record of the man's awards/campaign medals. However, it might also provide you with info such as date of entry as he has 2 MICs. One for the MM and the other for his campaign medals. You can't leave anything unturned when it comes to research so I would say that £7.00 of your hard earned cash is worth it! http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...mp;mediaarray=* Steve
kevinrowlinson Posted 7 February , 2008 Posted 7 February , 2008 His records are available. Attested Leicester 25-10-1915, signed on at Fort Burgoyne, Dover, 29-10-1915. Went to France 9-2-1916 and sent to 30th Siege Battery, with whom he won the MM. eventually transferred to 221st SB exactly one week before being killed. Someone may have the war diary for the 30th SB for the relevant time for his MM and the one for 221st SB for when he was killed. If you would like his records then PM me your email address. Kevin
