Fred van Woerkom Posted 6 February , 2008 Posted 6 February , 2008 Pals, I seem to remember seeing on this excellent forum a picture of a 'monument' for animals, somewhere in the Somme. No, it is NOT the Chipilly horse, but a little monument close to a wall or even a mural on the wall. Who can enlighten this poor fellow? Cheers, Fred
IanA Posted 6 February , 2008 Posted 6 February , 2008 This one at Couin? http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...st&id=28695
Rupert Posted 6 February , 2008 Posted 6 February , 2008 That would be the one. I stopped there in summer last year with some friends to pay respects and the farmer who owns the structure came out and and gave us some leaflets detailing the use, and losses, of animals on the Western Front. Nice bloke. The animals represented on the plaque are: Horses, mules, pigeons, canaries and dogs. Well worth a visit. Roughly a 20 minute drive from Albert. Stu
