Jim Clay Posted 5 February , 2008 Posted 5 February , 2008 The following item on this morning's BBC Radio 4 Today programme (see http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today/reports/..._20080205.shtml ) got me thinking: In the 1920s, Ernest Hemingway bet ten dollars that he could write a complete story in just six words. He wrote: "For sale: Baby shoes, Never worn." ...he won the bet. An American online magazine has now used that to inspire its readers to write their life story in 6-words. And they've been overwhelmed by the thousands who took up the challenge. They've published the best in a book given the title of one of the submissions: "Not Quite What I Was Planning". Can we tell The Great War Story in just six words? Here's my attempt We all thought: "Over by Christmas". Jim

Jim Clay Posted 5 February , 2008 Author Posted 5 February , 2008 With not a jot of surprise, I'm pleased to see the Forum coming up with a good collection of pointed and thoughtful 6-worders. No favourites, but I think Tom's and Harters' contributions are particularly pithy (pithy, Pals, pithy)
