This soldier -18791 - was buried at Wareham Cemetery, Dorset in 1916. Is there any indication of dow or other reason in Soldiers Died, please?

SDGW says born Aigburgh

enlisted Liverpool

died 12:3:1916 France & Flanders

No KIA or DOW! The fact he is back in Dorset suggests either wounds or illness to me.

Given he is from Lancashire it would also suggest he was back in one of the military camps based around Wareham

That was quick, its like a slot machine today!

That is my man and it sounds like a death from illness etc as you say. [The place should be AigburTh, though!]

Many thanks to you both.

The fact that Soldiers Died lists him as having died in "France and Flanders" suggests that he was a returned soldier who was wounded when serving abroad and had been posted back to the UK and attached to the 10th (T.F.) Battalion. I have come across this before with the King's Own - I don't know whether it extends to other regiments. He does have a Medal Index Card, indicating overseas service and perhaps confirming this supposition. You would need to obtain a copy of his Death Certificate to find out the precise casue of death.

Best wishes.

Andy.
