ackimzey Posted 3 February , 2008 Posted 3 February , 2008 The following is a numbered list from a small notebook belonging to Parvin Carter, M.D. who was posted to a hospital in Juilly near Paris in August of 1918. The notebook details part of a trip he made to Chateau Thierry in December, 1918. Some of the entries are clearly places but some I can't confirm on a map. If anyone can offer suggestions I would really appreciate it. The list appears on the last pages on the notebook and I've done my best with his hand writing. [untitled Numbered List] 1. Crezoncy 2. Mezy – Amm. Dump 3. Mont St. Pere 4. Jaulgonne 5. Le Carmel 6. Ciergus Recpapt[?] & captured 7. Chambre 8. Roosevelt Grave 9. Coulanges – closed and never stopped 10. Cohan – dug outs 11. Dravegney 12. St. Gilles 13. Fismes – Amm. dump 14. Jonchery R.C. Hosp. 15. Reimes 16. Trugny – Amm. dump, Big Bertha Base 17. Fere-en-Tardenais 18. Coincy – Bertha Base 19. Racourt 20. Chat. T. 21. Bar Le Duc 22. Souilly –Amer. & French Camp 23. Verdun 24. Hotel Grand du Gare I'm sorry I can't post the actual list, but, alas, have no scanner. Ann
Terry_Reeves Posted 3 February , 2008 Posted 3 February , 2008 Anne If you use Google Earth, the following come up on the map. Crezancy (note the letter "a" instead of "o") , Mont St Pere, and Jaulgonne are all to the east of Chateau Thierry. Fismes is in the Champagne region on the N31 between Soissons and Reims. Bar -de- Luc is near Verdun. I think Racourt should read Rancourt, which is on the Somme, on the N17 Bapaume - Perrone Road. Fere-en-Tardenois is to the west of Reims as is Coincy. Chat T is Chateau Thierry. Mezy is North West of Paris. TR
ackimzey Posted 4 February , 2008 Author Posted 4 February , 2008 Thank you so much, Terry. I'm trying my best to preserve the materials left by both Grover and Parvin Carter (brothers) for my family. And I want every detail recorded as accurately as possible. I could not have done this without all the help I received from many forum members. Grover's diary is complete and this is the last notebook that Parvin left. My cousins are all in debt to all of you. Ann
ackimzey Posted 4 February , 2008 Author Posted 4 February , 2008 One more question, is there any record of a Canadian Hospital (or any hospital) at Jonchery ? I couldn't find any mention in the "list of hospitals" thread. Thanks, Ann
marc glorieux Posted 6 February , 2008 Posted 6 February , 2008 Ann, If you wish, I will look once this weekend (for those you don't have located) in the "Michelin - France Atlas Routier & Touristique". All the villages are noted in that book. Marc
ackimzey Posted 7 February , 2008 Author Posted 7 February , 2008 That would be great, Marc, thank you. I want to be sure everything is spelled correctly. And I am curious about the entry "Jonchery R.C. Hosp." I think it means Royal Canadian Hospital, but I can't find any reference to a hospital in Jonchery. Ann
PhilW Posted 7 February , 2008 Posted 7 February , 2008 Also use this site http://www.geoportail.fr/visu2D.do?ter=metropole Put name of location into the box labelled "J'y vais" and click on "J'y vais" Under "Ma selection" click on "Cartes", then "Carte IGN". Use sliders in box above to choose between mapos ansd aerial photos, and the slider on right to zoom in and out (maps can be very detailed - (better than i:10000) Dravegny for instance is at Longitude : 03° 38' 26'' E Latitude : 49 13' 8'' between Soissons and Reims 8k ish SSW of Fismes This link might work http://tinyurl.com/2epvv4
ackimzey Posted 7 February , 2008 Author Posted 7 February , 2008 Many thanks, Phil. That's a great site for France. Ann
