John490 Posted 22 January , 2008 Share Posted 22 January , 2008 Try again putting his details into their form on their website. http://www.icrc.org/eng/contact-archives I got a reply eventually for Gt Uncle Jim Jane Hello Jane, What sort of things did they tell you? I've also written to them (via their online proforma) about my GGF who was a POW, I expect to wait a few months.

Sparky53 Posted 22 January , 2008 Share Posted 22 January , 2008 May be the online form didn't work. I got fed up waiting so entered the details again. I didn't get much for my £35 I must say:- Name, first name : KEELING James Date of Birth: 21.5.1892 Place of Birth : Fenton Rank: Private Unit 2/6 : N.S.R Date and place of capture : 15.4.1918 at Meteren Place(s) of internment : present in the camp of Gardelegen coming from the front (according to a list dated 23.8.1918) From : one list from the German authorities. Luckily Jim's Pensoin Record survives so I knew practically all they sent me apart from WHICH CAMP Jane
pier Posted 22 January , 2008 Author Share Posted 22 January , 2008 I dont believe it ! i just received a e-mail back from the IRCA saying they cannot help me without a unit and service number which i dont have and would never be able to get, does this mean there is nothing i can do to find out about him. Many thanks for any help London girl..........
Sarah Hodnett Posted 23 January , 2008 Share Posted 23 January , 2008 I emailed the red Cross at the end of October.I only knew my grandfathers name and name of what camp he was in from a dated letter he sent while he was there. I didn't know what rank or army number or even which army group. However, I got a reply last week with just a few details but telling me the date of capture and which battalion he was with. so try again and be patient. Good Luck.
