Mark Abbott Posted 20 January , 2008 Share Posted 20 January , 2008 We are off to the Somme on Thursday. This time no kids, so a chance to eat out. Do any Pals have any suggestions? Staying at Chavasse Farm. Advice welcome. Mark
cockney tone Posted 20 January , 2008 Share Posted 20 January , 2008 Mark, I always recommend my favourite place, the Auberge next to the river/bridge in Authuile, Have a great trip where ever you eat! Regards, Scottie.
Mark Abbott Posted 20 January , 2008 Author Share Posted 20 January , 2008 Scottie I have heard about the place but have never ventured due to the children. Do you have their number handy so we can give them a bell before we go. I will give that task to Colette as her French is infinately less offensive to the natives than mine! Thanks for your help. cockney tone Posted 20 January , 2008 Share Posted 20 January , 2008 Mark, not sure about the code etc but their business card states; 03 22 75 15 18. It is the Auberge de la Vallee d Ancre, 80300 Authuille. 'Ferme Le Mercredi' my French is embarrisngly non existence and my cockney drool does not help but they have always made us welcome. Hopefully its still a very good standard and i hope to pop in there during March, let me know how it was if you do get there. if you have time look into the river from the bridge next to it, as i recall years ago spotting fragments of what appeared to be gravestones in the water, no idea the story behing them though, also the CWGC Cemetery at Authuille a pleasant five minute walk away is very atmospheric! i am now in danger of rambling so will close! Regards, Scottie.
