DavoT Posted 19 January , 2008 Share Posted 19 January , 2008 Hello Pals, following on from a previous topic in another section of this forum, I'm trying to locate the whereabouts of the 52nd Battery RFA between 10-14 Oct 1914. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, David
rflory Posted 19 January , 2008 Share Posted 19 January , 2008 During October 1914, 52nd Battery, RFA was part of the 15th Brigade, RFA which in turn was one of the Brigades serving with the 5th Divisional Artillery. On 2 October the 5th Divisional Artillery was withdrawn from action and marched to Nanteuil, and then via Villers, Cotterets, Vez Bethizzy to Longeuil. On 7th October the 8th and 15th Brigades entrained for the Bethune front. By 11th October 1914 all the batteries of the 5th Divisional Artillery were in action of a front from Cuinchy, Festubert and Rue de l'Epinette and at dawn of 13th October the division attempted to advance on all fronts. For the next week confused fighting took place. Regards. Dick Flory
DavoT Posted 19 January , 2008 Author Share Posted 19 January , 2008 Hello Dick, thankyou so much for the information. It all falls in place with a casualty I have for this time. He's buried in Browns Road Military Cemetery - Festubert. R.I.P. Driver Peter Gallacher RFA. You are not forgotten. Regards, David
