Friends of the Forum.

In many cases has been dealt with the topic at the forum, but I want to start a new thread to consolidate some of the information on the subject.

My question is:

You know any man in any of the Royal British Services (RAF, RFC, Royal Army, Royal Navy or Others), which was born in South American soil?

I have particular interest to those related to Venezuela.

Please know you have a name, would be pleased to know if you have some details about their service would be grateful.

I have a small number of these men but in aviation services, which place or under methods which can be achieved in detail about their service and some even better photograph?

Hoping to be able to receive any comments.

Thanks in advance. :D

Dario

Excuse my poor English language.

Friend Grant.

Thank you for the Welcome..!!!!! :D

I feel privileged to know the names of them, only knew the Cadet Ludford, the remaining names are new to me.

I express my gratitude for this information, which in addition to the names contains a summary of its latest service.

Please, if someone else knows a new name would be grateful to know.

Thanks again for your interesting and valuable reply.

Greetings.

Dario,

Bom dia. My son lives in Sao Paulo so it is interesting to see South America here. You can search for others using Geoff's search engine:

http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/search2.php

Just put say ' Chile ' in the included part and nothing else gives 44 names.

eg.

CASTRO, FELIX

Initials: F

Nationality: United Kingdom

Rank: Fireman

Regiment/Service: Mercantile Marine

Unit Text: S.S. "Avanti" (London)

Age: 32

Date of Death: 02/02/1918

Additional information: Son of Rosa Santander de Castro, of Santiago, Chile. Born in Chile.

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead

Memorial: TOWER HILL MEMORIAL

You can then search Bolivia, Peru, etc etc

For WW2 (sch don't tell Chris) you use

http://www.hut-six.co.uk/cgi-bin/search39-47.php

for that you will get a lot of Brazilians in Italy where they had a Brigade AND received the surrender from the Germans in 1945.

Aye

Hola Dario,

Bienvenido al foro.

Those on the CWGC database are only those that died in the war. If you are looking for all who served that is quite a task.

My grandfather Capt. Edmund S Compton Royal Garrison Artillery (SR) was born Valparaiso Chile and served in the Anti Aircraft Artillery. He returned to Valparaiso after the war and died there young because of mustard gas damage to his heart. The family first emigrated to Valparaiso in 1865 but they observed British traditions and even spoke English as did a very large group of British merchants that lived there.

The number of "British" subjects, some born in Valparaiso, some not who volunteered fills a book, I have seen it.

Then you have the French community who lived there, not quite as numerous or influential as the British but still well represented and also the German community who returned for the Kaiser.

Suerte.

Dario

To add a little to the information on Cdt J E Ludford, he was killed in an accident while flying a Curtiss JN-4 with 2Lt Arthur Courtenay Williams, from Toronto, at the School of Air Gunnery (Canada) at Beamsville on 18 September 1917. 2Lt Williams was also killed in the accident.

Regards

Gareth
