Hi All

Downloaded this diary quite a while ago .....

Just had a look in the war diary for actions on 7th October 1916 and the appendix for the actions on this day seem to be missing for this day.

If anyone has the dairy and could have a look .....is it me or the diary ?

Alternatively anyone with an account from the regimental history - it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Glyn

Somme Day by Day gives

III Corps attack on the Butte de Warlencourt ( 7 Ocober - 5 November)

47 Division

The front was being held by 140 Brigade; 142 Brigade was resting.

Their first objective was to take SNAG TRENCH. The 1/8th London led the attack but were stopped by machine-gun fire. The 1/15th London with 1/7th London in support met the same fate. All they acheived were some posts near the Le Barque road in touch with 41st Division.

My Grand-Father was in the 1/15 London. Where can I download a copy of the war diary from?

Hi Glyn,

Westlake's 'Battalions on the Somme'

The Quadrangle near Mametz Wood (30/9), Flers Line Eaucourt l'Abbaye sector (4/10). Attack on the Butte De Warlencourt and Warlencourt Line (7/10) - high casualties from German barrage while advancing through Eaucourt l'Abbaye and machine gun fire beyond village. Attack failed. Casualties - 349. Battalion records note that more than half of the attacking force had never been under fire and had joined a few days before. Via Bottom Wood to Albert (9/10). Entrained for Longpre (13/10) and from there transferred to the Ypres sector.

cheers, Jon

And I'd also like to echo the sentiments. That's the first piece of 'real' information that I've got on my grand-father's service in the KRRC and the 1/15 London. Thanks.
