Roger Thompson Posted 14 January , 2008 Share Posted 14 January , 2008 Hi there Pals, John William Noble, Private, York and Lancaster Regiment, 14/622. Would I be right in thinking that his service number 14/622, indicates he was in the 14th Battalion(2nd Barnsley Pals), if so does anybody know or can reference anything about him. All I know about him is he was originally from East Keswick out Wetherby way in Yorkshire, but was living at Birstall when he joined up. Sorry about the limited information. Thanking you all in advance. Roger.

scapaton Posted 15 January , 2008 Share Posted 15 January , 2008 Hello Roger. Jon Coooksey's book, Pals, listed under Nominal Roll 14th Battalion ( 2nd Barnsley ) York and Lancaster Regiment. Shows a entry for 622 Private Noble J.W. ( Coy C ). Sorry, can't locate any other reference to him. There is under heading, 13th Battalion men killed before the 1st July 1916, a listing for Noble Leonard. born Hoyland Common. Enlisted Barnsley. Private 14/1084. May 11th 1916. I'm not aware is there is any connection between the two men. Regards. Brian.

corkington Posted 30 December , 2012 Share Posted 30 December , 2012 Hi, I came across this site whilst looking for information on one of my relatives. I know this thread is 4 years old but you never know that this might help. Pte 14/622 John William Noble (2nd barnsley Pals) York and Lancaster 14th batt C company was my grandfather. He enlisted on feb 18th 1915. He was born in Barnsley (Stairfoot). He was wounded on 2/7/1916 (Gunshot to left elbow) and was discharged as unfit for service and given his silver star. It seems that my grandad is not the soldier that the thread starter wanted, but that info is probably known now as this thread is so old. Greg.
