midgemeg Posted 9 January , 2008 Share Posted 9 January , 2008 I have not been active on the Forum for some months and I would like to recommend 'Prisoners of War in British hands during WW1' by Graham Mark. I noticed the request for information on Handforth Camp and as nobody quoted this book I thought it was worth a mention. A recent publication by the Postal History Society, it is obtainable from the author -Oast House West, Wiveliscombe, Somerset. TA42NT. I bought it because I collect the postmarks, cachets from these camps. However the book contains a comprehensive amount of information about each camp, with an extensive bibliography. Ask your library as it will cost £25 plus postage! ISBN 978 0 853770299.
bootneck Posted 10 January , 2008 Share Posted 10 January , 2008 Just a brief note to say what a good book this is. It was a pity I did not know about it before I gave a short talk about Frith Hill Camp a couple of months ago. It is also worth pointing out that there are some interesting books out there on military and naval history from the postal perspective, including one on Royal Marines. regards Bootneck
