Hi Tom

this is a great service - thanks very much for providing it.

Would you be able to provide any additional information on my great grandfather - all we have is what is recorded by the CWGC:

Gunner Ernest Gerrard

690377

D Battery RFA

Died 13 Sept 1917

I'm interested in finding out which unit he was with.

Thanks very much.

John.

Hi John...

I have been researching D battery 159th RFA...

Let me know if this is the same battery that Ernest was in...

Tom,

I have SDGW can you see if you have any info on

13975 private Arthur Francis Woodland (Royal Berkshire Regiment)

L/19186 gunner Cecil Jeffries (RFA)

8180 private Charles Robert Francis Davis (Border Regiment)

Thanks in advance

Ian

Hi Tom,

I am doing some research on four British WW1 casualties whose remains are buried in my home town of Nijmegen, the Netherlands. They where prisoners of war and died of disease (at least one of them) while being repatriated to the UK after the armistice.

Their names are:

Private Harold Dawson Servant from Glasgow, RMLI, 1st Bn.R.M. Bn. R.N. Div.,Service No. CH/458/S (I already have his service records from the Fleet Air Arm Museum)

Private J(oseph?) Wrigley, 9th Bn. East Surrey Regiment, Service No. 26693

Private P(ercy?) W(alther?) Toder, 2nd/5th Bn. Sherwood Foresters, Service No. 242617

Private F(red?) Twigger, 2nd/7th Bn. Sherwood Foresters, Service No. 266353

I wondered if you could give me any (additional) information about these men.

Thanks in advance,

Bjørn Kokke,

Nijmegen

Hello Bjørn.

Tell me which databases you have used already ( i.e. SDGW CWGC De-Ruvigneys, National roll of honour etc) and that will narrow it down for me and save me a lot of time.

Regards.

Tom.

I have only searched the CWGC database. As far as I know the other ones are not online, and I don't know where I can find them over here!

Here is the data from SDGW;

Private Harold Dawson Servant from Glasgow, RMLI, 1st Bn.R.M. Bn. R.N. Div.,Service No. CH/458/S no data on this guy as he is in the navy.

Private J(oseph?) Wrigley, 9th Bn. East Surrey Regiment, Service No. 26693

Joseph Rigley. Born in Liverpool and enlisted there also. formerly he was with the Manchester regiment where his number was 63307. He 'died' as opposed to being Killed in Action. See the discussion on this forum during the past week on the difference.

Private P(ercy?) W(alther?) Toder, 2nd/5th Bn. Sherwood Foresters, Service No. 242617 SDGW does not give his first names just the initial P. Enlisted in Newark in Notts while living in Southwell in Notts, he 'Died' also.

Private F(red?) Twigger, 2nd/7th Bn. Sherwood Foresters, Service No. 266353 Freg Twigger enlisted inNottingham and he 'Died' also.

I will check them off De Ruvigneys this evening for you.

Regards.

Hi Tom

I spoke with you the other day ref casualties

but i notice you have a database of dead soldiers my grandfather was suppesedly missing presumed dead for 3 years his parents did recieve the letter stating this but 3 years later he walked in

my question is in a case like that would he be on any list of dead soldiers???

His details are

Benjamin Macleod

3rd Seaforth Highlanders

No.33907

date would be somewhere around November 1917

it is possible he was in hospital all this 3 year period as he had his lung shot out

any info would be gratefully received

Kindset regards
