Hi everyone,

I’m doing some research into a local school war memorial as part of my MA in History, and was wondering if anyone has any information on the guys I am researching, or can point me in the right direction.

I have listed each of the 10 guys I am researching in a new topic category so I can keep my research organized.

They attended Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Kirkby Lonsdale. The school still exists but is no longer a grammar school.

The below information is all from the Commonwealth War Graves database or the Soldiers died in the Great War Database. (A friend very kindly helped me with these look ups)

Name: HAYGARTH, John William

Rank: Lance Corporal

Regiment: London Regiment

Unit Text: 1st/7th (City of London) Bn.

Age: 21

Born: Kirkby Lonsdale

Enlisted: Sun Street

Date of Death: 25/09/1915

Service No: 2876

Additional Information: Son of Robert and Elizabeth Haygarth, of Tower House, Dent, Sedbergh, Yorks

Memorial: Loos Memorial (I know this is cheeky but if anyone is going to the battlefields I would very much value a picture of his name/grave)

Memorial ref: Panel 130 to 135

All information gratefully received.

Regards

Oli

Oli

Its not available as an on-line download.

Its listed in the catalogue, which I believe you can request photocopies of specific months at a cost.

Hope this helps

At the time of enlistment, John William Haygarth was an employee of Glyn, Mills, Currie & Co, one of the Banks that now form part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. Their archives may hold further information.
