mikebriggs Posted 6 January , 2008 Share Posted 6 January , 2008 Dear all Arthur Hutchby died whilst serving with the 22nd Battn Durham Light Infantry on 26.4.18. However, he had previously served as Pte 23842 in the Notts & Derby Regt (Sherwood Foresters). From his number (23842) I would guess that he enlisted in the N & D in March 1915. He was resident in Hasland when he enlisted. I don’t think that he served overseas with the N & D but was transferred to the Durham Light Infantry and sent to France and served with that Regiment. Can anyone please tell me what the 22/DLI were doing on the 26th April 1918? Many thanks in advance Mike
Mick D Posted 6 January , 2008 Share Posted 6 January , 2008 "by 1000hrs (25 April 1918) the Btn had fought its way into Villers Brettoneux" as quoted in Durham Pals by John Sheen. it goes on to say that the Btn took defensive positions until relieved 28 April 1918 by 45 Australian Btn.
