Tom Morgan Posted 5 January , 2008 Share Posted 5 January , 2008 Zillebeke Lake was man-made, with an earth embankment on the Western end to retain the water. This embankment was Zillebeke Bund. Shellfire emptied the lake during the war, and the embankment (which is quite a substantial one) was an ideal spot for dugouts as it faced away from the German lines.
