Danny4554 Posted 2 January , 2008 Share Posted 2 January , 2008 Firstly Happy New Year to one and all. Secondly, can anyone recommend cheap accommodation in Ypres? Going over with a bunch of about 10 Scooter enthusiasts the first weekend in May. Absolutely dreading the ride over, bearing in mind these machines will be doing anything between 45-50 mph. Leeds to Dover, Dover to Dunkirk. I think a few sore bums will be the order of the day. Thirdly, does anyone know of a book which can give me sights to see each day? Mant thanks. Mark Hone Posted 2 January , 2008 Share Posted 2 January , 2008 There have been several previous threads on this, e.g. http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...l=accommodation I think that the best book for new visitors remains the Holts' Guide to the Ypres Salient, with its accompanying map. This contains several ready-made itineraries and is regularly updated.
iain mchenry Posted 2 January , 2008 Share Posted 2 January , 2008 Danny, As Mark says, the Holts guide book is a good self-drive guide. As is Rose Coombes' Before Endevours Fade, now in its 12th edition. You may wish to contact Peter Morris, an expat who runs the "Rum Jar" B and B here in Ypres. He can accommodate 10 people. Here is some info: www.therumjar.be 0032(0)473 778806 I know Peter, and his prices are very reasonable. Regards Iain

Danny4554 Posted 3 January , 2008 Author Share Posted 3 January , 2008 Typical, just typical, phoned Peter at Rumjar, he had no vacancies and then explained that the weekend we are going coincides with a Belgian bank holiday and therefore Ypres will be fully booked. He gave me a few websites to try and guess what, bingo. I have managed to secure a 10 man holiday home in the Ypres market square just outside the cloth hall at a cost of 580 euros for a long weekend!!!!! Thank you again forum members for your assistance, and Peter, if you go on this forum, big thanks to you. PS. If anyone is interested the website I used was: www.westhoek.be ( then click on toerisme) Danny
Johnty D Posted 7 January , 2008 Share Posted 7 January , 2008 Don't know how cheap you want but I recommend the Arianne. JD
