For those of you interested in the numbers……

During 2007 CWGC added 168 new WW1 names to its Debt of Honour database – 168 casualties brought in from the cold. This compares with 159 in the previous year. Also during 2007, seven names from WW2 were added.

Of the 168 WW1 names, 51 were put forward by GWF on behalf of members as was one of the WW2 names.

In addition to the names added, GWF had another nine WW1 names and three WW2 names accepted which have not yet been included in the database as their burial sites are still being investigated. They will appear in next year’s tally.

During the year, GWF also successfully put forward a 1962 casualty to be added to the new UK post-WW2 Armed Forces Memorial (not a CWGC responsibility).

Currently, GWF has a further 25 cases awaiting determination by MoD and other Commonwealth authorities. The latest case was only submitted on 24.12.07. Only five of those outstanding were submitted prior to 2007 and so most of the earlier backlog has been cleared.

And this is all before GWF’s ‘In From The Cold Project’ has started to generate new cases.

Well done to all members who discovered and researched these men.

Let's hope 2008 is as good.

I'm going to confidently predict that it will be better, now our "In From The Cold" project is actively seeking out non-comms.

Not forgotten.

John
