203261 Pte FE Crocker 6th Wilts

Have found 203261 Pte Frederick Edward Crocker, 6th Wilts died of wounds 11/10/1917 from SDGW. As he is listed as being resident in Chippenham and not recorded on the war memorials in Chippenham, I checked the CWGC site and can find no trace of him.

Can anyone shed anymore light on this man (am I missing something on the CWGC?) and if he is a possible non-commemoration?

Many thanks in advance

John

Here he is:

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...casualty=841860

Hopefully we have already identified the name issue during the Forum's "In from the Cold Project". Terry Denham or Kevinaka1888 will be able to confirm for you.

However, you'll see that the CWGC listing of next of kin seems to support the spelling as Croker not Crocker. If you have evidence to support the Crocker spelling could you please forward it to Terry.

1914/15 star roll entry.

Croker, F E Pte 203261; disembarked 4-12-1915: D.of.W 11.10.1917; 1/1 Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry, 1601 Pte; page in original roll 2775, T C4

BWM & Victory entry

Croker, Frederick Edward, Pte 203261; 6 Wilts, 1/1 Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry, 1601 Pte , Entitled to BW & V medals through service in 4 TF BN Died of Wounds, 11-10-1917 WO 329 1541 original page 1842

interesting that there was also ..

Croker, Daniel Joseph Pte 203026, 1st Wilts, 4 Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry202778, Pte also Entitled to BW&V medals through service in 4TF Bn, killed in action 17-8-1918, WO329 1541 original page 1842

would possibly seem that these two could be brothers although Daniel does not get mentioned in either of the star rolls, unless he possibly entered earlier through the Cornwalls.

In that case I would possibly suggest this to be the correct spelling of his/their name not Crocker.

Many thanks for the replies and for clarifying this man for me.

John - it would seem that his name was Croker as you have already identified and that SDGW is wrong. I have pictures of the 2 memorials at Lacock and both show him as Croker.
