Hey Guys

I would like some help on finding information about my great great uncle, Private William Thomas Errington (20/400)

I believe he was in "A" company, 20th Tyneside Scottish, NF and he died on the 1st July 1916.

My uncle is also doing a similar search (member PeterHastie) I only seem to know facts and I would like to know, if possible, information about his comrades, what kind of life he would have had training in Alnwick and his roles in the trenches of the Somme. If anyone can recommend any books that would also be a great help.

thanks,

Jennifer

Jennifer,

Welcome to the Forum and three good books to read are;-

"Tyneside Scottish" by Graham Stewart & John Sheen published 1999 by Pen & Sword Books ISBN 0-85052-587-X.

"The Sory of the Tyneside Scottish" by Brigadier General Trevor Ternan. Original copies rare but now reprinted.

"The 34th Division" by Lt-Col J. Shakespear. Original copies rare, but now also reprinted.

Graham.

As your Great Great Uncle died on the 1st day on the Somme he was almost certainly killed attacking just north of la Boisselle and therefore the book from the Battleground Europe series with the name of the village by Micheal Stedman will also be of interest, ISBN 0850525403
