bantamforgot Posted 22 December , 2007 Share Posted 22 December , 2007 Does anyone have an image of the original "Bantam " divisional insignia 35th.,before the 7 fives version? If not could they advise where I might obtain same. Regards. Colin
Greenwoodman Posted 22 December , 2007 Share Posted 22 December , 2007 Original choice of sign was a red cockerel. According to "British Battle Insignia 1914-18" the Royal Army Museum Brussels has an example of a silver bullion rooster worked on a scarlet patch. bantamforgot Posted 25 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 25 December , 2007 Colin, Here's the insignia from 1916. Hope it's what you're after. David T. Many thanks David, have sought an image for sometime, the 7 X 5's doesn't do it justice. Never understood why it was changed even when it had long since ceased to be a truly Bantam unit. The 40th. was never a true Bantam Div. but had the "Cockerel" from start to finish. Ever heard of a memorial to the "Bantams" anywhere????? Regards & All the best for today. John Thorne Posted 26 December , 2007 Share Posted 26 December , 2007 If you are interested in the Bantam battalions, then you need to get this book: "The Bantams: The Untold Story of World War I" by Sidney Allinson, published in Canada by Mosaic Press in 1982. Wonderful stuff.
bantamforgot Posted 26 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 26 December , 2007 Many thanks John, however I have had the "Bantams" for many years & as you say, an excellent book. The original 35th. Division insignia is seldom seen or mentioned, even less than the contribution made by the men of the Division. Thanks for your interest. Regards.
