John_Hartley Posted 25 January , 2004 Posted 25 January , 2004 Paul Whilst it's possible that he might have joined the local Territorials later in the war, the odds are against it. Could have been anything - not even a battalion of Manchesters (quite a number joined the South Lancs as well). My advice given to one of your other posts about almost certainly needing to visit Kew still applies - it is the only practical way you will find out which battalion. I don't know if you live in the area, but the regimental archives are at Stalybridge Library. If you're local, it might be worth a trip, but it's a very, very long shot that they happen to hold something that would mention him. If it turns out to be one of the Mancs, then there are a number of Forum members with particular interests in that regiment and may be able to help with the history. Good luck John
CROONAERT Posted 25 January , 2004 Posted 25 January , 2004 I didn't actually say that he possibly joined the 8th later in the war. I was referring to his non-inclusion in the City Bns Book of Honour, stating that he could possibly have been in one of the Pals units as a later replacement and , therefore wouldn't be mentioned in this 1916 publication. I also mentioned the fact that the local Bn to Ardwick was the 8th, stating that it was possible but (quote) "I wouldn't put any money on it" that he was a member of this. Just as possible, as John says, he was in any other Bn of any other unit going. Obtaining the MIC should clear the waters a little. Dave (with apologies for any confusion caused)
