Paul Reed Posted 19 December , 2007 Share Posted 19 December , 2007 One of my old veteran pals was Malcolm Vyvyan; this is an old Cornish name, but the family also has roots in South Wales (Glamorgan). Have you checked him in Debrett's, as many branches of the family are found in there?

delta Posted 19 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 19 December , 2007 Joan - thank you for the link; this shows Frank Vyvyan dying in Vancouver on 22 Deb 1967 aged 76. This links to a FGY who was born on 1891 in Croydon. I see the record in on microfiche- are any on-line records held Stephen

Guest Fredrick Posted 6 January , 2008 Share Posted 6 January , 2008 Doris - that's wonderful - thank you Stephen Stephen: I am also researching Frank George Vyvyan, who died in British Columbia in 1967. He was an actor. He first married Olive Mable Eltone (1883-1931), who was also in the theatre. From 1924-27 they were members of the Allen Players, a stock company touring Canadian cities. The leading lady of the company was Verna Felton (1890-1966) who remained their friend for many years. In October 2007, I visited in the home of Verna's granddaughter in Los Angeles, CA, and I saw an oil portrait of her which Frank painted. I am trying to verify his exact date of birth. Have you found it? Thanks, Fredrick Tucker Duncan, South Carolina USA frex59@bellsouth.net
delta Posted 6 January , 2008 Author Share Posted 6 January , 2008 Hi Frederick and welcome to the Forum. I cannot make a firm link to the Canadian connection so I may be barking up completely the wrong tree. I need to get up to the National Archives and see if his personal file exists as this have the details of his date of birth. From the internet, and other publications, the details I have so far are as follows: possible birth 1891 in Croydon (this is the only record in the BMD eements of Ancestry) From his medal card, it appears he joined the Machine Gun Corps in 1915; his orignal service number was 749 which seems to link him to the Motor Machine Gun Corps. There is no indication he deployed to France before Aug 1916; At the battle of Flers Courcellette he was the NCO in tank C6 - see http://firsttankcrews.webs.com/tanknosc1c6.htm - which also provides details of his gallantry award What started your interest in Frank - is it the theatrical life?
