welshdoc Posted 19 December , 2007 Share Posted 19 December , 2007 I have a medal pair to Captain L F Edwards , Ive spent hours trawling the National archives online , and the London gazette for a Captain L F Edwards with no successs. The nearest I have found are Captain Frank Edwards Royal Fusillers Lieut. Leslie F Edwards Essex Captain Leslie Edward Edwards Royal Fusiliers 2nd lieut Louis Foster Edwards South Lancs Lieut. LLewelyin Foster Edwards South Lancs Capt. Lewis Edwards Welsh Regt Captain Lawrence Edwards Northumberland Regt. Do any of you pals have access to the army lists or have any idea if here was a Capt L.F. Edwards. p.s. the medals are 100% correct but as there is no matching MIC. My feeling is that the NA have either missed a promotion or thre is an error on the medal naming. Any help will be gratefuuly received as my head is spinning. liverpool annie Posted 25 December , 2007 Share Posted 25 December , 2007 Hi Welshdoc ! You probably know these already .... but just in case !! ............ According to South Lancs history .... 3 subaltern officers - Lieutenants WA Beckett - LF Edwards - L Woodward gained special mention for displaying leadership of a high order ! Lieutenant L F Edwards 2nd Battalion was Gazetted 26/7/1918 for Military Cross .... !! Might help to narrow the field ! Annie Found this one ..... ! Medal card of Edwards, Lawrence Northumberland Fusiliers Lieutenant Temporary Captain Northumberland Fusiliers Captain Date 1914-1920 http://www.rootschat.com/links/02f3/
welshdoc Posted 25 December , 2007 Author Share Posted 25 December , 2007 Thanks and Merry christmas Annie , hope you had a good day. I have researched both men but have failed show that Lieut LF Edwars South Lancs (who by the way was a casualty) was promoted captain, as for Lawrence, I can not find any reference to him being L.F. So I am just trying to get a "favorites" list before having to fork out for each MIC. Lieut. Leslie F Edwards Essex definately retired as a Lieut in 1921 2nd lieut Louis Foster Edwards South Lancs may be the same man as Lieut. LLewelyn Foster Edwards South Lancs but died as a Lieut in 1918 http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...?casualty=23666 Neither Capt. Lewis Edwards Welsh Regt or Captain Lawrence Edwards Northumberland Regt. Have an initial F insofar as I can find in the LG promotions , but remain probabilities. Captain Frank Edwards Royal Fusillers http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=4 and Captain Leslie Edward Edwards Royal Fusiliers may be the same person as there is no MIC for Capt. Leslie Edward Edwards just apparently him as a private http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=1 he too was a casualty http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...casualty=514620 http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/ViewPDF.a...dward%20edwards So as of now I think the MICs are all screwed up and probably the naming of the medals so the latter is my current favorite.
