Admin Michelle Young Posted 24 January , 2004 Admin Share Posted 24 January , 2004 I am posting this for my Pa, as he has had a few difficulties loading the picture Michelle Some years ago some French friends took me to see a memorial to Lt Col H C Simpson , 173rd Bde RFA . Apparently he was awarded the Croix de Guerre in March 1918 for his Brigade assistance to the French . they know nothing more than that . The Brigade War Diary has no record of any which would have merited such an award . He was a highly decorated officer and after the war became President of the Shoreham British Legion dying suddenly in 1943 . He left a wife and two daughters who have since died . The interest group in France who have secured the quarry against vandalism would have dearly loved a photograph of the man (so would I ) . Have written to Woolwich , The Royal British Legion HQ , the Shoreham branch , local newspapers , his old school without success . So does anyone have any other suggestions . Will follow up any lead . Any ideas would be gratefully received , Maurice
