Could someone please confirm that the following soldier would have enlisted pre war

Cpl Croston, ser no 8230, 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusileers, died 7/7/1915.

Some enlistment dates I am aware of incl details of their Battalion:

No ----Battalion -Date

9443 - in 9 Batt -Nov 1914

9447 - in 2 Bn - 5.11.1914

9451 - in 1Bn - 5.11.1914

9610 - in 11 Bn - Nov 1914

9808 - in 20 Bn - Nov 1914

There are two possibilities here. Number 8230 was a number issued to the regular battalions in late November or early December 1900. In accordance with army instructions of the time, when the regiment numbering reached 9999, it started numbering from one again and reached 8230 for the second time in September 1914 (the service battalions adopting the same numbering sequence as the regular battalions). So your man either enlisted in late 1900 or in September 1914.
