tony freeman Posted 6 December , 2007 Share Posted 6 December , 2007 hello again, my quest to find out more about my great uncle continues.... i wonder if any of you out there could clarify this? according to 2nd battalion DLI war diary during early september 1915,part of the unit occupied trenches "north of the verlandenhoek(probably mis-spelt by me,i know)road, near a place they call "stink house". looking at maps of the area at that time,i can see a place called "oder house". is this the stink house that they refer to?maybe that sounds odd,but i think it would be typical of the lads to give a place with a name like oder house a slang name?ie,oder=ODOUR=stink? any ideas?as usual, any input is greatly appreciated. all the best, Tony.
