I have a postcard dated Mar 1916 addressed to a Pve in the 3rd Batt Seaforth Highlanders G Coy 29 Hut Cromarty.

As the Special Reserve Militia Batt. looks like they did not deploy overseas. Was this a training unit that would transfer soldiers to other battalions?

The 3rd. (Reserve) Battalion Seaforth Highlanders were a Reserve Battalion with the dual role of Home Defence and providing drafts for battalions serving overseas. They spent the whole of the war Aug 1914 - 11 Nov 1918 together with 3rd (Reserve) Bn Cameronians as the Cromarty Garrison.

Unfortunately I answered my own question... Pve Stafford was xferred to the 2nd Bn. and died 17-10-1916 in the Somme. (CWGC)
