eviltaxman Posted 29 November , 2007 Share Posted 29 November , 2007 Morning all, Just had to post this here - Iron Cross I wonder how the seller knew this?! Les (I don't know the seller and if I did I'd ensure he didn't live it down)
59165 Posted 29 November , 2007 Share Posted 29 November , 2007 Blimey Les. Pte.Stripe's family must be wondering how he won that one!
Chris_Baker Posted 29 November , 2007 Share Posted 29 November , 2007 When they made him Lance Corporal, did someone hear him being called "von Stripe"?
IanA Posted 29 November , 2007 Share Posted 29 November , 2007 Well, if it's got his name around the rim, I'm convinced.
eviltaxman Posted 29 November , 2007 Author Share Posted 29 November , 2007 I have e-mailed him to at least advise that the ribbon may be original, but ain't for that medal! If/when I hear back I'll let you all know. Les (still sniggering to himself ) EDIT - Just checked the listing (on the off chance) and they've amended the name of the medal and also the ribbon to be "proper to the Allied Victory Medal" - my words to him/her... so they've certainly taken some note. Guest KevinEndon Posted 29 November , 2007 Share Posted 29 November , 2007 Ask him what length of ribbon is attached, it may be worth buying if just for the original ribbon and discarding the lump of tat.
auchonvillerssomme Posted 29 November , 2007 Share Posted 29 November , 2007 the pair to Pte Stripe are worth a pop. shame theres no history to how the IC actually fits in, documented as souvenired for example.
findabetterole Posted 29 November , 2007 Share Posted 29 November , 2007 Hey chaps, This really is uncanny! I have the medals for Pte Stripes elder brother... Sgt Stripes! He won the bowling alley singles championship in 1919: 1st class shot with crossed clubs, and the prestigeous 'Golden Boot' award of the same campaign, for seeing that his men were all attending the church parade! Offers are open to you chaps as a special favour first... Mugs of tea only accepted.. no sugar! Seph
