soldiers pension record

Hi,

On my Granfather pension record it's written that on the 30th Nov 1911 he was 3rd class b/o, Does anyone know what this mean.

He was also station at Shorncliffe any info on this would be greatly appriciated.

Possibly a 3rd Class Education Certificate (required for promotion to Corporal), 2nd Class for Sergeants, 1st Class for Warrant Officers.
