He seems to have been involved in an escape attempt that led to him and another officer being prosecuted in the German (civilian) criminal court in early November 1918 on charges of criminal damage amongst others. It appears the officers were acquitted on all charges: events were somewhat overtaken by both the flu epidemic (Sullivan did not appear in court as he was down with the flu) and then the armistice. Whilst he was a bugler (Bglr) to start with, he would also have undertaken normal infantry work and may have moved out of the bugling role when promoted to Corporal.
