Remembered Today:

How were payments made?

Looking through service records, we see payments being agreed to a soldier's wife in respect of Separation Allowance and Pensions.

Could somebody please advise how these payments were made. Did the recipients have Order Books as they have now (or did have before all payments went direct to the bank). If so, were these presented at Post Offices for payment?

Or was it something completely different?

I think they were paid with Allotment Books and were paid on production of the Allotment Book at the Post Office.
