Remembered Today:

Death certificates for soldiers killed in action overseas

Apologies if this is a really dumb question but I'm struggling to find a death certificate for my great granddad (to ascertain cause of death) who was killed in France in 1918. Were British death certificates issued?

Thanks

Andy

Let me have his number, rank, name and unit and I'll get the GRO reference for you. With this, you can order the DC on-line thru' the GRO.

Thank you very much.

I'm looking for Private 276587 Thomas Heselwood of the 1st/7th Manchesters. He died on 23//3/1918.

Thanks again.

Andy.

He is registered as a Cpl in the following reference (Year - Volume - Page) 1918 - I.18 - 144

Go to http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ , find "Order Documents Online" and follow the instructions. It will cost you £7.

Regards

Jimmy
