andigger Posted 17 November , 2007 Share Posted 17 November , 2007 Today I went to the War Bond Poster Drive exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery in DC. It was pretty interesting, among the things I learned from the exhibit was the focus the US gov't put on recent immigrants to contribute to the drives to prove their new American-ness. Of course many of the images are now familiar, and all invoke the primary patriotic call to duty and the evil enemy. Another interesting fact... the Great War cost the US approximately $30 Billion, the 4 war bond drives (two in 1917, one each in 1918 and 1919) raised approximately $20 Billion of that cost, mostly as a result of the success of these posters.
