It seems that the Russians also presented Robert Quigg VC with the Medal of Order of St. George (fourth class), the highest award of the Russian Empire. But why did he recieve a Russian award ? As far as I know he never saw any battle in Russia........

Albert Ball got the same award,I think its just a reciporatory thing between countries as Ball was never near Russia either.

As with all Allied award the Russians awarded Decorations & Medals for Gallantry "Inter Alia" ie they were given as suggested reciprocally between the Allied Nations without the recipient ever having seen a Russian,Frenchman,Belgian, Italian, etc;obviously some recipients earned theirs for specific acts whilst serving with or alongside the respective Ally but the majority would be from the "pool" of available awards, especially following a major assault etc.
