CWGC added the following 'new' WW1 casualties to its Debt of Honour database today – Monday 12th November.

Flying Officer Noel Butler HEMSLEY MBE

No. 1 Gp, Royal Air Force

Died 31.03.21

Buried: Keston Churchyard, Kent, UK

Second Lieutenant Austin Ross LAPP

3 TDS, Royal Flying Corps

Died 09.03.18

Buried: Toronto (Mount Pleasant) Cemetery, Ontario, Canada

NOT FORGOTTEN

LAPP was one of a number of non-com airmen put forward by myself between 2004 and early this year. All were caught in a log jam at MoD (RAF) which has now been unblocked. All were in-service deaths and so the cases were incontestable.

These non-coms had been listed for years in ‘Airmen Died’ as being uncommemorated by CWGC and so I decided to take up the cases. Helpful information was received for some of the cases from members, canadawwi and Neil York. Other names will be added to the database shortly and a few more names remain to be put forward but they need death certificates from Ireland amongst other things.

2/Lt LAPP was killed in the crash of DH.5 B4943 in the UK and was repatriated to Canada.

The HEMSLEY case was not put forward through GWF.
