Remembered Today:

WO 363 now appearing on Ancestry

I don't know whether this has been remarked upon already but I notice that the burnt records from WO 363 are starting to appear on Ancestry. Doesn't appear to cover any particular surnames etc and I suspect that this is a sample for testing purposes only. I've certainly not seen any announcement that these records are being released.

Any thoughts

It looks like random test pages, Mike - not mentioned on their main page, but shown as a 'New' database under 'Military records/other'. Much enjoyment to be had in weeks and months to come, I'm sure, not only in dealing with Ancestry's unique indexing foibles...

That was my thought as well - a test run coincidentally on Remembrance Sunday.

As for their indexing foibles this looks well up to the usual standard.

Will be good when its all online however.

Mike,

Thanks for the tip-off. As you say , it seems to be only a few records so far, and they seem even less well sorted than the pension records, but they are accessable.

A quick browse has found a few more names for my 6th South Staffs site.

Lets hope more are added soon.

Regards,

Stuart

Hmmm. I'm back... Front pages of records only, everyone. A test run, indeed.

A, B, and C seem to be the vast majority of the indexed records.

Steve,

Thanks for the tip off before I dived in. The TNA say that W0363 will not be on-line until the end of 2009.

I've been having a nosy too. I wanted Turner & Coole - Turner being common (like me :D ) there's only one hit.... but Coole there's 17!!

If they are only tests, best thing to do is save the images currently available or make a list of the relevant names/Regs etc for future reference so you know what should be available.

Thanks for the good news

I had a quick look and picked up a 2/6th Battn N & D man on the third record I looked at and even though it was only the first page it answered a long standing question of mine :D

Here's waiting for the rest B)

cheers

Had a quick look on the search screen, about 35 new men from my Parish, let my membership expire, swithering but if it's the front page only I'm not sure yet...mmm decisions.

2009?

Crikey, that's a long way off!!

I've done a quick search for my lads, quite a few surviving papers for those KIA.

Even managed to identify 1 i hadn't managed to yet!

Well pleased!!

Blimey - that's even further back than I've been quoting.

Mike,

Well that's what I was told the last time I handed in some corrections to the staff there when the records were out of place in the rolls, but if they are started to place test runs on Ancestry already, who knows.
