sotonmate Posted 8 November , 2007 Share Posted 8 November , 2007 Dan You need the War Diary WO95/4610 for the 1/8th SR,this covers the period 1/1916 to 3/1918 when the unit were in Egypt and Palestine,attached to 156 Brigade of the 52nd Lowland Division. The third battle of Gaza was in progress from 27 Oct to 7 Nov 1917 so it is likely that your man died there. I see that he is remembered on the Jerusalem Memorial.
