lionboxer Posted 4 November , 2007 Share Posted 4 November , 2007 I've put in a search and looked on the mother site but I can't find the dates when it was officially sanctioned to wear just the ribbons of Pip, Squeak and Wilfred on uniforms. I know the medals were issued later but any idea what ribbons (gallantry etc) would have been worn by September 1919? Lionboxer
per ardua per mare per terram Posted 4 November , 2007 Share Posted 4 November , 2007 (edited) Gallantry medals were authorised to be worn from date of gazette, there was often a ceremony when a unit had time for such things and possibly another when the actual medal was presented. The 1914 Star was authorised in 1917, but the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals were not authorised until 1919. I would imagine that the dates for the ribbons would not have been fixed as they would have to be manufactured and sent out. By September 1919 very few people were still in uniform, so the urgency to issue those later ribbons would have been less. Muerrisch Posted 4 November , 2007 Share Posted 4 November , 2007 The 1914 star ribbon was rushed out very quickly, and issued in the field. Many old soldiers were photographed wearing it.
